Wednesday scrimmage notes

The scrimmage Wednesday night was a success for the Hurricanes. Many underclassmen had the opportunity to showcase their talents at Traz Powell Stadium. There were no major injuries in the scrimmage. Here are some of the highlights from the action.

The star of the offense last night was Storm Johnson. Storm bolted for a 92 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. Johnson finished the scrimmage with 132 yard on 12 carries. Jacory Harris was efficient connecting on 8 out of 12 passes for 132 yard and 2 touchdowns. Lamar Miller broke away with a nice 44 yard run and finished the day with 90 yards rushing. The standout receiver for Miami last night was redshirt freshmen Kendal Thompkins. Thompkins finished the game with 4 receptions for 75 yards and a score.

On defense the Canes were lead by Andrew Smith. Smith had 10 tackles and 3 sacks on Wednesday night. With this strong performance Smith will make his case for a starting spot this season. Other standouts on defense were true freshmen James Gaines who finished with 7 tackles and Ramon Buchanan who finished with 4 tackles and an interception.
